Oak Island Treasure has worked closely with the Oak Island Tourism Society (OITS) to promote Oak Island as a fascinating heritage site. In November 2009, the Oak Island Tourism Society announced that they had taken the decision to close down. The reasons given for this were as follows: EventsThe OITS held the annual Explore Oak Island Days which is a fascinating celebration of the Oak Island mystery. Each year, this provided the opportunity for the general public to meet people involved in past excavations, view artefacts recovered from various pits, see the famed video footage from inside famous Borehole 10X pit and most importantly, actually enjoy a tour of the island, with kind permission of landowners and treasure hunters. The weekend also provided the opportunity for many of our forum members and followers from the Facebook group to meet one another face to face over a beer in The Black Pearl on Western Shore.
