Oak Island Treasure HQMy name is Jo Atherton and I'm the person behind this website. Oak Island Treasure is run out of a heavily guarded secret underground bunker in London, England. Well, I'd like you to believe it was - this is the internet afterall!

I've been interested in the Oak Island mystery since I was a child - I first read about the Money Pit in a book of my Mum's all about unexplained mysteries. At the age of 9, I felt I'd outgrown the usual tales of ghosts and UFOs and turned my attention to a tiny island in Nova Scotia. I was soon captivated by the treasure maps, secret codes and pirates.

Living in the UK, there was very little information I could get hold of on the subject, so my fascination began to fade until the summer after I graduated in August 2001.

I decided to turn my hand to the emerging popularity of the internet and teach myself how to design a website. I chose Oak Island as I couldn't find much current information about the Money Pit on the web at the time. I thought that by designing my own site, I might be lucky enough to hear from people living in the area who might be able to tell me what the status of excavations were.

Oak Island Treasure ForumNever did I dream the site would grow to the extent it has. Today, in May 2009, the site is receiving on average over half a million hits every month, the Forum is as active as ever and our Facebook group continues to grow on a daily basis.

Since 2001, I've been able to help in a wide range of projects including assisting documentary researchers, journalists, writers and even computer game developers. I don't think I will ever grow tired of running my website, given the number of interesting characters it continues to place in my path.

Sadly, I do have to earn a living in the Real World, and Oak Island Treasure remains something I run in my free time, however, I'm always keen to hear from people to hear how you first heard about Oak Island and what your theories are on the subject.
